SL Green Realty Corp partnered with WellStat to reduce energy costs by optimizing the start time of their HVAC equipment at a property in New York City, factoring in the building’s steam utility pricing peak window. The program followed a structured testing protocol that factored in indoor air temperatures, day of week, and outdoor air temperatures. This zero-cost initiative decreased in electricity usage outside of lease hours without affecting tenant comfort during lease hours. This reduction in equipment runtime hours yielded annual savings of 65,000 kWh and $10,000.
